The Cheapest MG You Can Record Through
The MG10XU is the MG10X with a 24-bit/192 kHz USB audio interface built in. Four D-PRE mic channels, three stereo line channels, one-knob compressor, three-band EQ, 24 SPX effects programmes, one AUX send and a monitor output — plus a single USB cable to a computer for recording and playback.
It is the standard small desk for a home studio, a streaming or podcast setup, a rehearsal room that also demos ideas, and any band that wants a board recording of the gig without carrying a separate interface.

Reading the MG Model Names
Yamaha's MG names are a code, and once you know it the whole range makes sense at a glance:
- The number is the channel count — 06, 10, 12, 16, 20.
- X adds the SPX digital effects processor (reverbs, delays, chorus).
- U adds a USB audio interface for recording straight to a computer.
- F means channel faders instead of rotary knobs.
- K means the reverse — knobs instead of faders, for a shallower, lighter console.
So the MG10XU is ten channels with effects and USB, on rotary knobs. The MG10XUF is the same specification with faders, in a larger and heavier chassis.

FAQ
Q. Can I record each channel separately into my DAW?
No. The MG10XU's USB interface carries a stereo mix, not individual channels. It is for capturing the finished mix, streaming, and playing tracks back. For multitrack recording from a mixer you want the MGX12 or MGX16, which record 18 and 22 tracks respectively.
Q. Do I need to install a driver?
It is USB Audio Class 2.0 compliant, so most current systems recognise it without one. Yamaha publishes a driver for Windows where lower latency is needed.
Q. Is it worth paying more for the MG10XUF?
Only if you want faders. The audio specification is the same. Worth knowing: the MG12XUK is usually cheaper than the MG10XUF and gives you twelve channels and six mic inputs — also on knobs. Faders are the thing you are paying for on the XUF.
Q. How many microphones can I plug in?
Four. The three stereo channels are line-level only. Six mic inputs means the MG12 family; ten means the MG16 family.
