The Most Complete Small MG
The MG12XU is the MG12X with a 24-bit/192 kHz USB audio interface added — and that combination makes it the most complete console in the compact half of the range. Six mic inputs on D-PRE preamps, two subgroups, two AUX sends, one-knob compressors, sweepable-mid EQ, 24 SPX effects programmes, faders, internal universal power supply, and a single USB cable to a laptop.
Band, church, school hall, small venue, rehearsal room that also records — this is the model most people end up buying, because it stops you needing a second box for either effects or recording.

Reading the MG Model Names
Yamaha's MG names are a code, and once you know it the whole range makes sense at a glance:
- The number is the channel count — 06, 10, 12, 16, 20.
- X adds the SPX digital effects processor (reverbs, delays, chorus).
- U adds a USB audio interface for recording straight to a computer.
- F means channel faders instead of rotary knobs.
- K means the reverse — knobs instead of faders, for a shallower, lighter console.
So the MG12XU is twelve channels with effects, USB and faders. Do not confuse it with the MG12XUK, which is also twelve channels with effects and USB but drops the subgroups and the second send in exchange for a smaller, lighter body.

FAQ
Q. Can I record each channel separately into my DAW?
No. The USB interface carries a stereo mix, not individual channels. For multitrack recording from a mixer, look at the MGX12 or MGX16 digital consoles, which record 18 and 22 tracks.
Q. MG12XU or MG12XUK?
The MG12XU has faders, two subgroups, two AUX sends, 12-segment meters and an internal power supply. The MG12XUK is smaller, lighter, usually cheaper, and gives up all of those for one FX send and rotary knobs. Choose the XU for live band work; the XUK for install, AV and portable use.
Q. Does the effects processor use up an AUX send?
Yes — one of the two sends feeds the internal SPX unit, leaving one for a monitor wedge. If you need two independent monitor mixes plus effects, step up to the MG16XU with its four sends.
Q. How many microphones fit?
Six. Channels 1–4 are combo mic/line; 5/6 and 7/8 take an XLR mic or a stereo line pair; 9/10 are line only.
